The Gujarat government, in coordination with central energy authorities, has proposed a new Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) power scheme aimed at strengthening the electricity supply infrastructure for industrial demand in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).

The scheme intends to deliver an additional 150–200 MW of redundant power dedicated to manufacturing facilities, semiconductor units, data centres, and allied industrial projects that are rapidly taking shape in the region. The redundant supply is designed to ensure uninterrupted operations even during peak load conditions or maintenance periods, addressing a critical infrastructure need for heavy industries.

The ISTS plan will involve connecting Dholera’s grid network with the larger state and national transmission system, providing multiple channels for electricity inflow. This will reduce dependence on a single transmission link and offer power reliability and backup capacity for key industrial units.

Officials noted that the new power scheme will complement ongoing energy initiatives in the region, including renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies, aligning with Dholera’s vision of sustainable and resilient infrastructure. The development of ISTS power connectivity is expected to boost investor confidence, as consistent power supply remains a top priority for technology-intensive industries such as semiconductor fabrication and hyperscale data centres.

Electricity planners are currently finalising studies related to grid capacity, load forecasts, and transmission route optimisation. Formal approvals and funding allocations are anticipated in the coming months, with construction and integration planned to coincide with industrial ramp-up timelines.

Industry representatives welcomed the proposal, stating that an assured power framework will facilitate industrial expansion, reduce downtime risks, and attract further investment in Gujarat’s flagship smart city project.
