The Dholera International Airport is nearing completion and is expected to be fully operational by December 2025, according to official confirmations shared in Parliament by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. This latest update marks a major milestone in the infrastructure build-out for the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and is anticipated to elevate both passenger and cargo connectivity for the region and beyond.

Strategically located about 100 km from Ahmedabad, the new airport is designed to support both passenger traffic and substantial cargo movement, complementing the area’s growing industrial and commercial activities. Initial capacity plans include handling approximately 1.2 million passengers annually, with potential expansion to accommodate up to 50 million passengers per year as demand grows.

The airport’s integration with the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and other regional expressways is expected to improve accessibility to major cities and industrial clusters. This enhanced connectivity is also poised to reduce logistical bottlenecks, streamline the movement of goods from factories to domestic and international markets, and attract multinational corporations seeking robust transport infrastructure.

Industry experts believe the airport will be a game-changer for local economic growth, encouraging further investment in tourism, hospitality, real estate, and ancillary services around Dholera. With state-of-the-art facilities and cargo-handling capabilities, the airport is expected to serve as a second major aviation hub for the region, reducing pressure on existing airports and creating new economic corridors.
