Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway on 31 March 2026 during his visit to Gujarat. The access controlled expressway is considered one of the important infrastructure projects linked to the development of Dholera Special Investment Region.

According to official information released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the expressway has been developed at a cost of more than ₹5,100 crore. The project is expected to improve road connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera while supporting transport and infrastructure development in the region.

The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway covers a distance of approximately 109 kilometers and has been designed as a four lane access controlled highway with future expansion possibilities. The route connects Sarkhej near Ahmedabad with Adhelai near Dholera through important connecting areas including Bavla.

Government officials stated that the expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera significantly compared to existing routes. Faster road connectivity is also expected to support industrial transportation, logistics movement, and passenger travel linked to future development projects in the region.

The expressway is considered an important connectivity project linked to ongoing industrial and infrastructure development in Dholera. Multiple projects connected to manufacturing, logistics, semiconductor investment, and industrial infrastructure are currently being linked to the area.

Officials have also indicated that the expressway will improve connectivity to future infrastructure projects including the proposed Dholera International Airport and the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Improved transport infrastructure is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support future industrial activity.

The inauguration of the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway was part of a larger development program during the Prime Minister’s Gujarat visit, where multiple infrastructure and public development projects worth more than ₹20,000 crore were launched or inaugurated across different sectors.

Infrastructure projects linked to Dholera have received increased attention over recent years because of industrial planning, manufacturing investment proposals, and connectivity development in the region. The expressway is expected to improve travel and transport connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera.

With the expressway now operational, regional connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera is expected to improve further as infrastructure development activity continues in Gujarat.
