Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) continues to attract significant attention as a green energy growth corridor, with multiple renewable energy initiatives underway and new plans emerging to expand solar and wind power capacity to support the region’s industrial and urban energy demand.

At the heart of the region’s clean energy vision is the Dholera Solar Park, envisioned as one of India’s largest renewable energy hubs. The project aims to develop up to 5,000 MW (5 GW) of solar generation capacity spread over more than 11,000 hectares of land in the Dholera SIR. This solar park is designed to supply clean electricity to industries, data centres, and urban communities as part of Dholera’s smart city and sustainable infrastructure goals.

Already operational within the larger solar initiative is a 300 MW solar power plant commissioned by Tata Power Renewables Energy Ltd. in Dholera. Featuring India’s largest single-axis solar tracker system, this plant generates approximately 774 million units of clean power annually and significantly reduces carbon emissions — a major milestone for renewable capacity in the region.

In addition to solar generation, renewable energy investment discussions are underway for component manufacturing units and potential wind-solar hybrid projects. For example, industry players like Grew Energy have announced plans to set up solar component manufacturing facilities in Dholera with multi-gigawatt capacity, positioning the region as a central node in both renewable production and clean energy supply chains.

The state government of Gujarat continues to promote renewable energy deployment across the state, building on its strong presence in solar and wind capacity. Combined with policy support and incentives, these developments align with Dholera’s goal of becoming a fully sustainable smart industrial city, powered predominantly by clean energy sources and serving as a model for future urban-industrial ecosystems.

With solar and wind capacity expanding and major investments in both generation and manufacturing, Dholera’s renewable energy hub plans are expected to play a major role in powering industrial clusters, smart utilities, and export-oriented sectors in the coming years.
