Government Approves New Semiconductor Manufacturing Unit in Dholera Smart City
The Union Cabinet has approved a new semiconductor manufacturing project by Crystal Matrix Limited in Dholera, Gujarat. The project is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and support Dholera Smart City’s growing position as a major hub for advanced manufacturing and technology-led investment.
Dholera Smart City has received another major boost with the approval of a new semiconductor manufacturing project by Crystal Matrix Limited in Dholera, Gujarat. The project has been approved under the India Semiconductor Mission and is expected to play an important role in strengthening India’s domestic semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
According to official government information, Crystal Matrix Limited will establish an integrated facility for compound semiconductor fabrication and ATMP operations in Dholera. ATMP stands for Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging, which is a key part of the semiconductor manufacturing value chain. The facility will focus on the manufacturing of Mini and Micro-LED display modules based on Gallium Nitride technology.
This development is important for Dholera because the region is already being positioned as one of India’s leading destinations for next-generation industrial infrastructure. With planned roads, utilities, smart infrastructure, airport connectivity and major industrial projects, Dholera Special Investment Region is gradually emerging as a preferred location for high-value manufacturing investments.
The approved facility is expected to manufacture Mini/Micro-LED display panels and provide GaN foundry services. These technologies are used in a wide range of modern applications such as televisions, commercial display systems, smartphones, tablets, automotive displays, extended reality devices, smartwatches and other advanced electronic products.
The government has stated that the two newly approved semiconductor projects in Gujarat involve a cumulative investment of around ₹3,936 crore and are expected to generate employment for approximately 2,230 skilled professionals. Crystal Matrix Limited’s project in Dholera is one of these approved projects and adds another important layer to the region’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Dholera has already attracted strong attention due to semiconductor-related developments, including large-scale investment interest and supporting infrastructure. The addition of this new project further strengthens Dholera’s identity as a future-ready technology and manufacturing hub.
The approval also supports India’s broader goal of reducing dependence on imported semiconductor products and building a stronger domestic supply chain. As demand for chips, displays and advanced electronic components continues to grow across sectors such as automobiles, telecommunications, consumer electronics, industrial systems and digital infrastructure, projects like this are expected to become increasingly important.
For Dholera Smart City, this project is not just another industrial approval. It reflects growing confidence in the region’s long-term planning, connectivity and investment potential. With the development of supporting infrastructure such as the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, proposed rail connectivity and Dholera International Airport, the region is expected to become more attractive for companies looking for large-scale industrial and technology-driven expansion.
