The Dholera International Airport — a major greenfield aviation project near Navagam village in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) — is emerging as a crucial connectivity hub for Gujarat’s smart city and industrial ecosystem. The airport is being built on a large parcel of approximately 1,426 hectares and is strategically located around 80 km from Ahmedabad and close to Dholera SIR, enhancing multimodal transport links for both passenger and freight movement.

The first phase of the airport is on track for completion by December 2025, according to official updates presented in the Indian Parliament and project reports. This timeline reflects continued progress in construction, including land preparation, foundational infrastructure, and preparatory works needed for initial operations.

Once operational, the airport is expected to serve millions of passengers annually and support significant air cargo operations, complementing road and planned rail connectivity. It will link directly with the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, reducing travel time and enabling efficient logistics to support industrial clusters, manufacturing parks, and supply chains in the smart city.

The project is being developed under a public–private partnership model led by Dholera International Airport Company Ltd. (DIACL) with equity participation by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Government of Gujarat, and the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation. The airport site has received necessary clearances and is planned to accommodate future expansion phases, including cargo terminals and commercial development zones that will add to Dholera’s economic ecosystem.

Industry analysts say the airport will act as a catalyst for investment, boosting real estate interest, attracting foreign and domestic capital, and reducing logistical challenges for large industrial projects such as semiconductor manufacturing facilities and data centers in the region.

With its strategic positioning and multimodal connectivity vision — including expressway, rail, and future port linkages — the Dholera International Airport is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting Gujarat’s industrial growth and transforming Dholera into a globally competitive smart city hub.
